MAIN RESIDENCE
Inspired by the soft blue grey of the kitchen backsplash and bird fabric, the entire main floor of this waterfront home was redesigned to afford views from every seat in the house. Walls came down so that light could come in. And special touches were incorporated everywhere - from the hand painted vestibule walls (based on the blue bird fabric) all the way down to the kitchen...

ILE DE BELLEVUE CONDO 2013 A few months ago, I was contacted by a young entrepreneur who said he’d never worked with a designer before but that he wanted to make his lake-facing condominium feel more lived in. More hip. More him. At first I said I was too busy but agreed to meet with him because I was more intrigued by the idea of working on a project defined by a youthful and masculine aesthetic. It was something different. During our first meeting, I asked many questions and learned that his three favourite cities were New York, Miami...

CALMING BEDROOM OASIS These clients had already painted their bedroom a lovely green and didn’t want to repaint and as I wanted to add some glamour and sophistication to the space, I decided to opt for a less common scheme of pale silver, white and green which I thought would go nicely with the dark floors and furniture. I then proposed a custom upholstered headboard in a green and silver fabric to complement the wall colour and new bedding. New table lamps and a black and white photography display personalize the space. A...

1922 LIVING ROOM (90 years later) This lovely near-centenarian home is located in Montreal West and belongs to very close friends of mine. The kitchen had been renovated from top to bottom about 10 years ago and the third floor was transformed into a masterful master suite in 2009 (check out their updated bathroom with the original claw footed tub). However, they had lived in their atmospheric (read: dark) living room for a long time before deciding it was time to tackle the space. Especially as their five year old son’s toys and books...

ONE KITCHEN TWO WAYS When I moved to my current home in 2009, I discovered it wasn’t so simple (or affordable) to “just install a dishwasher” and, as a result, have lived without one for over THREE years. Which is like THIRTY in hand washing years. To make the situation even crueler, this summer my next door neighbor hired me to renovate her kitchen (identical in layout to mine) from top to bottom. Despite the irony, I graciously accepted the job (and pouted ungraciously in my head). When Julie’s kitchen was nearly...

BANISH THE BATH The last two bathroom projects that I worked on could not have been more different, yet both had one thing in common: the bathtubs were replaced with walk in showers. #1 This first bathroom also had special requirements as it had to accommodate my client’s wheelchair and ceiling rail system which transported him from the master bedroom to the bathroom. My clients called me not for my experience designing such bathrooms, which I do not have, but because they didn’t want it to feel like a hospital bathroom. They...
